WDAF-TV News Set

Kansas City, MO:  WDAF-TV ramped up its FOX attitude with a new HD set design from Devlin Design Group.  The Local TV station’s new look debuted in the November book, and station management is extremely pleased with the results.

“Our goal was to develop a contemporary TV news set that would take advantage of new presentation techniques and video technology,” said Damon Bryant, WDAF’s VP of Creative Services.  “We also wanted something that would put us ahead of our competitors in regards to flexibility and sheer beauty.  This set does just that.”

The FOX 4 new HD broadcast set design highlights the powerful technology with a clean, modern, bold design.  The main background features a bank of 82″ monitors, adding flexibility and visual interest to the newscast.  A large multi-purpose area with a kiosk and an 82” monitor was created for stand-ups, along with a large production area.

The FOX 4 weather center was a real departure for the station.  To give the newscast a more casual, relaxed presentation for weather, the DDG team created an area flanked by three 42″ plasmas and a rolling desk, allowing for multi-position stand-ups.

Tying everything together is the set design’s clean, streamlined look.

“The #1 thing that set us apart from other competitors who submitted bids was the simple fact that we truly listened to what the client wanted,” said Dan Devlin, DDG’s Creative Director.  “We were told that we were the only set design team who delivered what the management team asked for, that combined with DDG’s experience and reputation, made us the easy choice for WDAF.”

“Dan and his team are professionals,” said Bryant. “They listen and give you more than you ask for. They are extremely creative, knowledgeable and fun to work with.”

He added, “Dan Devlin is a very creative set designer with a strong reputation. I have worked at three stations where we have chosen DDG to create our sets.  Dan is extremely knowledgeable in his field, and very personable. He’s a pro’s pro, and will make you look wise if you choose to hire him.”

DDG is a pioneer in HD broadcast set design.  DDG’s team of HD scenic designers created the first HDTV news set for WRAL-TV, the first U.S. station to broadcast in HD, in addition to award-winning broadcast set design for broadcasters and networks worldwide. The DDG pros are experts in creating TV news set design specifically for High Definition environments.  DDG, creativity unleashed.
