WBZ, Boston, MA

Boston, MA:  Something new and spectacular awaits Boston viewers this fall. New England Television pioneer and CBS O&O, WBZ-TV 4 and UPN38 will be launching its new, state-of-the-art set created by DDG.

The 7 O’clock News on UPN38 will air its premiere broadcast from the WBZ Studios, where a new set was created for WBZ 4 News.  A fusion of architectural and graphical elements were utilized and combined with light and projections to convey different looks for different shows. WBZ’s Art Department worked with DDG to address the need to broadcast two distinct news looks from one studio.

While WBZ's newscast is completely integrated with progressive and technological ambiance, it doesn’t surrender its traditional features.  WBZ's Art Director Jim Priest states "we wanted a design that could bring a fresh, bright, energetic ‘newsroom feel’ to our news set.  We also wanted a set that effectively showcased our on-air talent.  A progressive set that complements our marketing message "WBZ Means News."

Priest explains, "DDG was recommended by our News Director, Peter Brown. We took a look at their work, I called around and got the "word" from other stations that have worked with DDG, and decided that they were right for the job.

"DDG has done a terrific job of creating the perfect duopoly set of the future," remarks Peter Brown, News Director, WBZ.  "With multiple backgrounds and a rotating anchor desk we can achieve significantly different looks for both WBZ-TV4 and UPN38.  In an important duopoly market like Boston, it was a perfect fit."

WBZ-TV 4 and UPN38/WSBK, Boston's only duopoly, are members of The Viacom Television Stations Group, a unit of Viacom Inc.
