KDKA and Devlin Design Group Capture the Life and Vitality of Pittsburgh

Friday December 11, 2015

A city once know for a booming steel industry, Pittsburgh’s downtown, know as the ‘Golden Triangle’, has been undergoing change for much of the decade. A revitalized urban area with conversions of a number of old buildings into living spaces are adding life and vitality to its neighborhoods and residents.

Part of the latest wave of development is the new set at the CBS affiliate, KDKA, designed by Team DDG. The scenic storytelling environment reflects their viewers lifestyle and thriving city environment. “We are thrilled with our new set in both form and function. The contemporary look of the set enhances our strong local news position. The design allows us maximum production flexibility for our local news programs as well as all of the other local sports, entertainment and public affairs programs we produce each week”. –Anne Linaberger, KDKA-TV News Director

The main desk has a ‘window on the world’ effect, achieved by wrapping the home base with ten 90” monitors. Another performance area includes a 4×3 presentation array to help viewers get deeper into a story. A large rear projection screen rounds out the flexible storytelling design. The contemporary space includes architectural touches… exposed stone walls and steel beams which remind viewers of industrial spaces tied to Pittsburgh’s history. The DDG set also made waves by including textured wave walls reminiscent of the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio rivers. A distinctive wood floor adds warmth to the large set and cements the vibrant downtown vibe.

“We know today’s news channels are facing unprecedented changes in the news business, we have the knowledge and experience to help them confidently adapt to such challenges with state of the art solutions. We are thrilled to accomplish our clients’ objective in this project.”
